The need for homes and communities is universal. With over a decade of experience working with the wonderful people who make up Canada’s co-op housing movement; I’ve witnessed a great number of heart-warming stories. The opportunity to take part in Rooftops Canada’s study tour of East Africa was by far one of the most moving experiences of my communications career.
From gender equality, land rights, to housing microfinance, my two weeks spent witnessing the dedication and effectiveness of WAT Human Settlements Trust in Tanzania as well as the National Co-operative Housing Union and the Mazingira Institute in Kenya cemented my appreciation for their accomplishments. I am proud to work for an organization that supports such valuable work. Rooftops Canada is truly a fantastic international ambassador for co-operation, housing, and for Canada.
I will never forget the wonderful people of Kenya and Tanzania, their strength of character, their beautiful lands and warm hospitality.
